Job Description Automation Engineer for Large Scale Biopharmaceutical Plant:

BiogenIdec is presently expanding their large scale manufacturing (LSM) facility in Hillerod. The facility is partially completed with several areas already in operation. The other areas are currently in construction.

As an automation engineer at the LSM facility, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving the control systems in the currently operating areas as well as helping the project team start up the new systems currently being installed.

In both areas you will be responsible for three basic control systems: building management systems (BMS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), and distributed control systems (DCS). In the operating areas, you will be responsible for keeping these control systems running, maintaining the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance of these systems, and ensuring the areas maintain production. In addition to day to day trouble shooting and maintenance, you will be required to interface with various groups such as manufacturing, maintenance, and quality assurance to develop continuous improvement projects that increase the usability and reliability of the control systems in the areas. You will be responsible for specifying and implementing these continuous improvement projects per BiogenIdec’s change control procedures.

In the areas currently under construction, you will become part of the project team. You will be responsible for one or more areas within the LSM facility. You will be responsible for installing and commissioning the control system hardware and software for your area. You will over see the installation of all automation hardware, you will provide trouble shooting support to the electrical contractor as they power up the automation hardware. Once the hardware is operational, you will work with the Process Engineering group to install and commission the software running the equipment in your area. You will provide support in the field running the software as well as trouble shooting assistance debugging the software. You will recommend any software changes required to get the software to meet the operational requirements set by the Process Engineers. You will design, program and test these changes per project change control procedures.

You will also participate in making larger changes to the facility required by changes in process design, changes in operational design, or changes in products. For these changes, you will act as the automation lead on a small project team implementing these changes. You will be required to design all aspects of the change from hardware to software. You may be required to supervise contractors making the change or implement the change yourself.

You will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering group. Manufacturing Engineering is a dynamic multi-cultural department that is highly integrated into the production organization. The main purpose for the department is to be the equipment owners, provide guidance on the equipment’s impact to the process, and to ensure compliance to FDA and EMEA requirements at all times.

Qualifications
Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering degree or similar
Familiarity with one or more of the following: DCS (preferably Emerson’s Delta V), Building Management Systems (preferably TAC or Johnson Controls), PLC (preferably Allen Bradley or Siemens).
Experience with pharmaceutical or biotech production equipment including packaging equipment.
Practical knowledge of basic electrical concepts (wiring, diagrams, etc)
Practical knowledge of FDA and EMEA regulations (GMPs).
Practical knowledge of batch automation standards such as S88.
Good knowledge of Windows operating systems (W2000, XP)
Good skills with standard Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, etc)
Good communication skills in both Danish and English
Minimum of 5 years industry experience

Education
University degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience.
