POSITIONS:
CLINICAL FELLOW IN ANAESTHESIA/ CRITICAL CARE - North England
This is more of a Critical Care role. If you get short listed for the post, the hospital will conduct a phone interview first, followed by face to face.
The posts are suitable for doctors who have previously worked in Anaesthesia and Critical Care, who wish to gain experience in the management of complex patients. The successful candidates will be given responsibilities within Critical Care department upon level of experience.
You will be based at 2 teaching hospitals, both registered for Advanced Training in the UK. Although these are not training grade positions, there will be the opportunity for audit and clinical research, with a dedicated teaching programme four times per week.
Most clinical responsibilities will be at the main Critical Care Department
It is a state of the art unit, currently open to 28 beds with the capacity to expand to 36.

SPECIALTY DOCTORS IN ANAESTHESIA -Northern Devon
Must have minimum of 3 years post-grad experience with Obstetric Anaesthesia.
The NHSTrust is seeking to appoint full time Specialty Doctor's to cover Anaesthetics. The post holders will be based a small friendly district hospital in a fantastic location. This post is for one year in the first instance, renewable with the agreement of both parties.
North Devon district that covers the northern part of Devon and a small portion of Cornwall. The district is principally a very pleasant rural area, including many attractive towns and villages, an extensive coastline varying from tall cliffs to wide sandy beaches and the Exmoor National Park.
The Trust serves a population of approximately 185,000; this is increasing and is greatly swollen by holiday residents in the summer months. The high quality of life together with new work opportunities and housing are attracting families and young people. North Devon is also a popular retirement area. Agriculture and tourism provide the main sources of employment, though in recent years light industry has become quite significant.
Staffing: The Anaesthetic Department is based at the North Devon District Hospital, where all anaesthetics are undertaken and is staffed by sixteen Consultants, two Associate Specialists (both part time), 5 Staff Grade and nine specialist trainees.
General Workload: The Department provides anaesthesia for approximately 18,000 procedures each year (of which 1000 are children). At present we have a total of nine operating theatres, plus an endoscopy unit. As well as general and regional anaesthesia the department is also heavily involved with the care of patients in the ICU/HDU, the obstetric unit, in acute pain management and in the transfer of critically ill patients. We also provide cover for the A & E department, the CT scanner and for ECT. The departmental computers are networked and have direct Internet access.
ICU and HDU: The Intensive Care Unit has expanded and is now a 7 bed combined ICU and HDU, which can accommodate up to 5 ICU patients. The ICU deals with a wide variety of patient conditions including respiratory failure, cardiac failure, renal failure, sepsis, trauma and postoperative vascular surgery. All patients are enrolled in the Intensive Care National Audit (ICNARC). Anaesthetists are closely involvement in the management of head injuries and are responsible for the transport of critically ill patients by ambulance and helicopter, to specialist facilities outside the District. At times the ICU also manages children who require intensive therapy. A new ICU follow up clinic is now running.
SPECIALTY DOCTORS IN ANAESTHESIA - Lincolnshire
Anaesthetists for both General and Obstetric Anaesthesia.
These are appointments for Specialty Doctors in anaesthesia NHS Trust based at County Hospital. They are new posts.
The hospital is located in a beautiful city famous for its magnificent Cathedral dominating the skyline and the nearby historic Castle. It is an expanding and rapidly developing city with a recently established and successful University with which the Trust is developing research and teaching links. It offers a wide variety of leisure and social activities with a vibrant arts and music scene. The city provides excellent schooling opportunities within the city and surrounding area. There is a variety of housing available within the city and numerous nearby villages at a cost that compares favourably with other areas of the country.
The County Hospital is situated in the uphill area of the city close to the Cathedral. It is a large, purpose-built modern District General Hospital, which provides a wide range of specialist clinical services to a catchments population of 450,000. It is part of, and the largest hospital within, the United Hospitals Trust. It has a bed complement of 705 beds.
The Intensive Care Unit is part of the Mid-Trent Intensive Care Network and is well equipped and staffed providing a full range of Intensive Care therapies. The Day Care Unit is integral to the hospital. Recent developments include an Oncology and Brachytherapy Unit and a combined Medical & Surgical Emergency Admissions Unit and a Stroke and Rehabilitation Unit. There is a busy, well staffed, Accident and Emergency Department.
The Department of Anaesthesia: The Department of Anaesthesia provides a full range of anaesthesia services for the surgical specialties at Lincoln County Hospital, the Obstetric Unit, the Intensive Care Unit, the Accident & Emergency department, the Radiology department and the on site Department of Psychiatry. In addition it provides anaesthesia services to Louth and John Coupland Hospitals.The Main Theatre Unit consists of ten operating theatres and separate adult and paediatric theatre recovery areas. In addition there are two gynaecology theatres in the Obstetric/Gynaecology wing as well as an obstetric theatre located in the Delivery Suite. The Intensive Care and Day Case Units are located next to the Main Theatre Unit.
The department is comprised of 27 consultant anaesthetists, two associate specialists and six staff grade anaesthetists. In addition there are currently eight specialist registrars and six senior house officers each of whom rotates either from Nottingham or Leicester Schools of Anaesthesia. There are three F1 and one F2 pre-registration house officers. There is a departmental administrator with full secretarial support. We have joined with Birmingham University to train two Physician Assistant (Anaesthesia) practitioners who completed their training in January 2009 and are training a further two.
There are separate Consultant ITU and General Anaesthesia on-call rotas. Nine Consultants have a specialist interest in Intensive Care. There are designated lead clinicians in all major subspecialties plus day care surgery, preoperative care, postoperative care and difficult airway management. In addition there are Consultant lead clinicians for clinical audit, clinical governance, medical equipment, duty rostering and paramedic training.
