Job Description:
HCL has a fantastic opportunity for a Consultant Physician with a special interest in Stroke Medicine to join a successful, progressive and ambitious District General Hospital in the South West of the UK.
MAIN DUTIES OF THE POST
The post holder will provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist assessment, treatment and care to patients with stroke. This includes providing thrombolysis with A&E colleagues and contributing to the out of hours thrombolysis rota of the AGWS network. The post holder will be responsible in combination with the other stroke consultant for providing inpatient care for stroke patients on the stroke unit and elsewhere in the hospital. They will work with the other consultant, 2 associate specialists and stroke coordinator in providing rapid access to TIA assessment. They will work with Geriatrician and community colleagues to provide appropriate aftercare and contribute to input into rehabilitation beds.
The post holder will be expected to develop high class stroke services to achieve targets as set out in the National Stroke Strategy, together with the existing stroke consultant, with support from the Clinical Director for Stroke, Care of Older People, Neurology and Neuro-rehabilitation.

There is scope for altering this job plan to suit the right applicant while meeting service needs. Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss this with the Clinical Director: consultants are expected to work with each other, other department leads and the Clinical Director to adjust their job plans in line with the needs of the service and their own areas of particular expertise.
The post holder will be encouraged to develop their special interests in stroke in line with the needs of the service.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Entry on Specialist Register with CCT in Geriatric Medicine and/or G(I)M or in neurology within 6 months of date of interview for this post.
MRCP(UK) or equivalent
ALS provider
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Demonstrable commitment and enthusiasm for stroke medicine
Broad experience in stroke medicine in dedicated acute stroke unit(s) in a UK setting
Experience of thrombolysis for acute stroke
Salary £74,504 - £100,446 per annum.
