Consultant Anaesthetist in Southampton

HCL International recruits an Anaesthetist Consultant fulltime permanent post on behalf of a well known NHS Treatment Centre based in Southampton.
The NHS Treatment Centre is a brand new, state of the art facility and provides high quality specialist treatments in 9 specialties. The Treatment Centre only treats NHS patients. It is run on behalf of the NHS by an independent company with an impressive track record in patient satisfaction, low infection rates and clinical success.
The Consultant Anaesthetist needs to provide the full range of anaesthetic services necessary to meet the needs of patients under the care of the NHS Treatment Centre. Whilst the working week will comprise 40 hours including an on-call commitment (1:7), working patterns will be flexible and will entail occasional evening sessions and weekend work to meet the requirements of the unit.

The post holder will be required to provide anesthetic services to support elective orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, ENT and maxillo-facial surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology, pain services and endoscopy.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
  • To carry out necessary duties to ensure the best and most cost effective treatment of patients.
  • To provide a full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment and care to inpatients, day cases and outpatients who require anaesthetic services and ensure anaesthetic care which is responsive to patient needs and to changes in workload.
  • To partake in the on-call rota for Anaesthetists (1 in 7) and to provide cross-cover for Consultant colleagues during their absence.
  • To provide first line senior medical support to the RMOs, both within normal working hours and as part of the on-call rota
  • To undertake all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, including but not limited to clinical coding, discharge summaries, letters and reports
  • To participate in the Centre's audit and clinical governance programme.
  • To contribute to the development of Clinical Quality Standards.
  • To contribute to the planning and development of anaesthetic services.
  • To contribute to the teaching of Centre staff.
Requirements:
  • To be on the Specialist Register (Anaesthesia) of the GMC or to be in the process of obtaining it.
  • Broad clinical experience of all forms of adult anaesthesia, particularly orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, ENT and maxillo-facial surgery, ophthalmology and gynaecology.
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients.
  • Practical experience in regional anaesthesia particularly for orthopaedic procedures.
  • Ability to form constructive and effective professional relationships with existing consultants and staff.
  • Ability to work within a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients and staff, both orally and in writing.
