Located in the centre of London, Guy's & St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust has one of the largest Perioperative and critical care departments in the UK.
Comprising 33 theatres overall our adult Perioperative department located on two sites includes 2 purpose built Day Surgery Units, 2 Endoscopy Units, a large Obstetric Unit and 2 postoperative recovery units operating 24 hours per day covering elective and emergency surgery in a wide variety of specialities.
On the Guy's site the main suite presently comprises 11 theatres. These cater for specific surgical specialities such as advanced laparoscopic robotic urology, skill testing Thoracic surgery and ENT and Max fax surgery, Orthopaedics and all Renal services. As a result of expanding orthopaedic services opening of a new theatre is planned for the New Year. In addition Periop supports one of the largest Dental schools with specialised cover.
On the St. Thomas' site specialist services include fast advancing, aortic aneurysm stenting & percutaneous heart valve replacement within a lab setting, with fantastic results. As well as the main unit there is a cardiac wing comprising of 4 theatres and an extra 10 theatres for the remaining specialities including major plastic, gynaecology, ophthalmic, general services & priority theatres which run 24 hours, 7 days a week.
We have also recently opened a new Children's Centre which has dedicated paediatric operating theatres and a recovery suite. Overall, within the Perioperative department we treat in excess of 30,000 surgical patients per year. With a progressive approach and a commitment to the delivery of high quality patient care we continue to expand and develop.
Perioperative Medicine is fully committed to providing a dynamic environment conducive to gaining additional knowledge and skills. Our close links with local, nationally renowned educational providers enables us to provide a wide range of educational programmes up to PhD level and we offer a generous package of both study leave and course fees. We also have a designated Practice Development Team for the Perioperative and critical care departments who can provide support and guidance throughout your career development. In addition, a designated group of clinical support staff who function as part of the practice development team, will support, lead and provide a robust orientation package for new and junior team members.
We are looking for experienced Theatre / Anaesthetic Nurses / ODPs and Recovery staff to work in our busy adult and paediatric operating theatres. These posts will be key to the delivery of a high quality service as well as supervising and supporting junior staff and students. Dependent on your experience, you will be expected to deputise for the Sister / Charge nurse / Senior ODP in your area.

Evelina is the newest purpose built paediatric centre in the heart of London situated on the St Thomas's Hospital campus. The Evelina Theatres specialise in ENT, General, Urology, Renal, Orthopaedics, Plastics and Cardiac Catheterisation. We have three theatres, a catheterisation lab and we also cover several satellite areas including MRI. We currently have the following vacancies.
Band 6 - Staff Nurse / ODP in Anaesthetics, Scrub or Recovery
You will be an NMC level one registered nurse, RSCN or registered ODP with broad experience in surgery and/or anaesthetics. A recognised post-registration course in anaesthetics, care of the perioperative patient or recovery is essential. Paediatric experience is preferable but not essential. A mentorship or equivalent teaching qualification is desirable.
